A named curation profile is a filter you define once and apply to many devices, so they stop drifting apart.

• A profile stores the RULES, not a list of category names. Category names belong to one provider — a list built from Lion would match nothing on a Trex line and would hide nothing at all. So a profile holds the rules, and applying it reads that provider’s live categories and works out the names itself. One profile therefore means the same thing on every line.
• Applying happens on the playlist, not here. This page defines and names the rules; you apply one to a playlist from the device’s Playlists panel. Applying needs to read the provider, so it can fail — and it refuses rather than saving a filter that hides nothing.
• Editing a profile does not change devices already using it. What a box shows is the list worked out when the profile was applied to it. After an edit, re-apply to the playlists you want updated — the count below tells you how many that is.
• Lock puts everything the rules hide behind the unlock PIN. Unlocked, the viewer can un-hide a category on the box with no PIN. Adult and news are always locked regardless — in the un-PINned tier they would be one tap from visible. The PIN itself is set per device when you apply, never stored here: one shared PIN would mean one leak unlocks the whole fleet.
• News is its own control because nothing else covers it. None of the region, language, 24/7 or sports rules match news, so under English-only US| NEWS is a wanted region and is kept. This is the only way to say “no news”.
